Description

Jewish Plant Tales will explore Jewish folk tales about, or significantly featuring, plants that have played important roles in Jewish tradition, culture, and folk medicine. Folk tales teach communal values and hold wisdom accumulated through generations of storytelling. This class will focus on stories about four plants that were common to many Jewish kitchens across the diaspora: garlic, chamomile, rose, and chickpea. We will also learn about the roles of these plants in Jewish folk medicine. All registrants will receive a recording as well as supplemental class notes. Access to a pre-recorded class will be available within 72-hours of the live class. Registration Options: Subsidized rate: this rate is intended for working class and poor people who otherwise would not be able to access this class Solidarity rate: this rate more accurately reflects the value of the class and helps us sustain our birthkeeping work and research
