Lactation Advocacy for Medicaid Clients
Description
This 75-minute class will examine some of the realities of lactation within working-class communities, addressing barriers related to employment, leave policies, feeding/pumping at work, access to support, and socioeconomic challenges. Emphasis is placed on practical, inclusive strategies that help families navigate feeding goals while balancing full-time work and daily responsibilities. We will particularly look at policies in the service industry (namely customer service workers, care workers, maintenance support workers). Participants will learn about valuable referral resources available to families, including how to understand and access WIC breastfeeding benefits. Additional topics include compassionate guidance around milk in cases of infant loss, as well as information on freeze-dried breast milk and best practices for long-term storage and preservation. Class is friendly for all birth workers looking to learn more about how to specifically support the experience of their Medicaid clients. Registration Options: Subsidized rate: this rate is intended for working class and poor people who otherwise would not be able to access this class Solidarity rate: this rate more accurately reflects the value of the class and helps us sustain our birthkeeping work and research
