Explore Taíno natural dyeing and the botanical and ancestral stories behind the plants and organic materials that lend their vibrant colors. Participants will learn the basics of preparing a natural dye bath and working with Indigenous botanicals to transform fibers such as Sea Island cotton, silk cotton and/or maguey. The workshop will also explore temporary plant-based pigments on the skin while connecting natural dye practices with Taíno culture, Caribbean and Antillean plants, pre-colonial movement and Indigenous relationships with the plant world.
